2020: The Year in Bedlam
2020 was a hell of a year
DANGEROUS VISIONS AND NEW WORLDS: RADICAL SCIENCE FICTION, 1950-1985
If you’re a fan of literary science fiction this book is absolutely essential reading
RED SPIDER, WHITE WEB
Here we have what is undoubtedly the most widely discussed yet least read book of the cyberpunk cycle
RED GRASS
A novel as puzzling and bizarre as nearly any I’ve read, filled with enigmas I’m told will come clear on subsequent readings
SOUTHLAND TALES
In which, as often occurs in sophomore films, the writer-director went completely berserk
TRANCERS
This is perhaps the only legitimately good (not so-bad-it’s-good) movie ever directed by Charles Band
The DUNEiverse and Its Discontents
DUNE: the novels, films and everything else
HELLSTROM’S HIVE
There are some good ideas in this, a post-DUNE Frank Herbert science fiction novel bearing a concept that evidently obsessed him: human-insect hybridization
PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE
A great deal of dumb fun, but those in search of the true worst movie ever made are advised to keep looking
THE SHIP OF MONSTERS
Mexican made lunacy with a difference: it’s a sci fi-western-vampire movie!
