Reviews & Commentary by Adam Groves
THE DARK
A disappointment. This 2004 film is plenty weird, yes, and fairly well made, but also clumsy and misconceived
DANTE’S INFERNO (1924)
This is a middling silent drama from 1924, of interest because it contains scenes set in a Hell that, as the title promises, is straight out of Dante
DANGEROUS ENCOUNTERS OF THE FIRST KIND
This relentless exercise in nihilistic violence is a stunner, being the bleakest and most psychotic film ever made by Hong Kong’s Tsui Hark
DAGON
This H.P. Lovecraft adaptation by Stuart Gordon didn’t look particularly promising, but I’m pleased to say I quite enjoyed it
THE CURSE (1987)
This undistinguished 1987 grue fest is of interest for one reason: the name “Louis Fulci,” credited as Associate Producer—actually Italy’s Lucio Fulci
