Reviews & Commentary by Adam Groves
SALOME (1972)
This 1972 Italian obscurity is easily the wildest production of Oscar Wilde’s SALOME you’ll ever see
SALO, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM
Widely hailed as the most disgusting and/or disturbing movie of all time, SALO is indeed a profoundly unsettling viewing experience
SAINT MARTYRS OF THE DAMNED
Fans of David Lynch and Takashi Miike should appreciate this extremely well-crafted French-Canadian exercise in surreality, though I suspect most everyone else will be annoyed by it
SAFE
One of the most remarkable films of the nineties, and easily the best film David Cronenberg never made
THE SABBATH
Any movie featuring the delectable Beatrice Dalle involved in orgies and medieval torture can’t possibly be all bad—or so I thought until I sat through this mess
THE UNHOLY THREE
One of the few novels I’ve read capable of disproving the assertion that truth is stranger than fiction, THE UNHOLY THREE is the twisted story of a trio of circus freaks on a crime and murder spree
UNDER THE DOME
I don’t feel UNDER THE DOME is the triumphant return to form for Stephen King that many are dubbing it, but it is lively and readable
UGLY
Here we have a very rough little book by filmmaker Mick Garris, who puts his status as a Hollywood insider to excellent use
Nutzoid Horror Fiction
My passion for nutzoid horror fiction is hardly a secret. I can certainly appreciate a subtle and well written horror story, but really: who doesn’t enjoy a walk on the wild side?
