An unauthorized take on DRACULA, SLAUGHTER OF THE VAMPIRES isn’t very good, but has amassed a following due, I’m assuming, to the fact that it’s so old
SKINNER
If the purpose of a horror movie is to startle then this one must be counted as a success, particularly in some unforgettable gross-out moments. That doesn’t change the fact, however, that it’s standard-issue nineties straight-to-video trashola in nearly every other respect

A rare attempt at genre filmmaking by Spain’s Pedro Almodovar, who provides a visually ravishing exercise in Cronenbergian horror
THE SIXTH SENSE
Arguably the key horror movie of the nineties, and the film most responsible for lifting the genre out of the doldrums in which it languished for most of that decade
REGISTRY OF DEATH
Some seriously freaky shit, this, an oddly repellant and disturbing graphic novel
RED STAINS
If nothing else, this gross-out anthology definitely lives up to its billing. It contains (as the back cover proclaims) “Tales of the Darkest Biological Extremes and the Psycho-Sexual Imagination”

This is allegedly one of the nicer novels by the great Jack Ketchum, but I’m not so sure
THE REAL THING
For an adults-only novel that actually lives up to its billing check out THE REAL THING by the late William Carney, an elegantly crafted account of revenge and psychosis among gay leathermen
RAW PAIN MAX
This novel represents all we’re not supposed to like about the splatterpunk movement: it’s trashy, adrenaline-fueled, misogynistic and ultimately pointless
